WHAT IS THE MOST ENERGY-EFFICIENT AC SETTING?

With summer here, it’s inevitable that your AC will be running nonstop this season in order to combat the summer heat. This means that, in turn, your energy bill will be affected, and you will likely see an increase in your energy consumption. You may be wondering if there is an energy-efficient AC setting that can aid in keeping your energy bills a little more controlled while still being able to keep your family comfortable. Luckily, Finneytown Heating & Cooling can help you find the perfect temperature by considering various factors, allowing you to achieve an energy-efficient and comfortable atmosphere in the end.

IS THERE A SUGGESTED AIR CONDITIONER SETTING?

According to the US Department of Energy, setting your thermostat to 78°F during the summer can help you save energy. We know this may seem a little high, but it’s important to note that no single temperature setting works for everyone, everywhere. This should just give you a general idea of where to start. It may require some experimentation on your part to discover the ideal setting to stay cool and comfortable while also achieving energy savings during this season.

IS THERE A WAY TO FIND YOUR OWN PERFECT AC SETTING?

To determine the best temperature that suits your household, you’ll need to go through a little trial and error. However, the suggested temperature of 78° F is an excellent starting point! You can start by setting your thermostat to this temperature for a few hours. Allowing your AC to run at this setting should be sufficient time to determine if everyone in your home is comfortable with this temperature range. Then you can adjust the temperature one or two degrees accordingly and continue this process a bit at a time over the next couple of days based on everyone’s reactions. Keep in mind that the average temperature recommended by ASHRAE for most residences is between 73°F to 79°F. Also, remember that the lower you set your thermostat’s temperature, the higher your energy bill will be.

IS THERE AN AC SETTING YOU SHOULD USE WHEN YOU’RE AWAY FROM HOME?

When you go on a summer vacation, what temperature should you set your thermostat to in order to save energy since no one will be home to enjoy the cool air? Of course, you don’t want to leave the air running full force as if someone was in the home. That would be a waste of energy. Just keep in mind that to avoid damaging household items such as plants and collectibles, it’s best not to set your thermostat too high. Instead, try increasing it by only 10 degrees from your usual summer AC temperature when you’re away as a general guideline.

IS THERE A THERMOSTAT THAT CAN HELP WITH ENERGY CONSUMPTION?

Traditional thermostats are great, but using a smart thermostat can help you in terms of energy efficiency. Sometimes it’s easy to forget to adjust the temperature before leaving your home for a weekend getaway or summer vacation, but with a smart thermostat, you can easily change the temperature from your phone even if you’ve already left. On top of that, you can readjust your thermostat’s temperature to automatically change back to your regular temperature when you start to head home. That way, when you return from vacation, the house is once again at a comfortable level. So, if you don’t already have a smart thermostat, contact us for more information!
